3/6/22 WIAA Division 5 Basketball Sectional Final: (1) McDonell Lady Macks 37, (1) Northwood 33

In another sectional level rematch, the Lady Macks (25-3, 12-2 Western Cloverbelt Conference) faced the unbeaten Evergreens (26-1, 18-0 Lakeland - West), to determine the final team at State.

In front of a jam-packed gymnasium at Amery, both teams dug in defensively and battled to a tie at the half. Though McDonell's shots were not falling with their usual accuracy, each member of the team evidenced grit and tenacity on defense, making every possession feel like the game was on the line. 

In the final moments, the Lady Macks' hustle and tournament experience proved to be deciding factors, as they punched their ticket to the WIAA Division 5 State Tournament in back-to-back seasons.

Despite foul trouble throughout the game, junior forward Marley Hughes hit three absolutely clutch threes and led the team with 11 points, while young sophomore forward Aubrey Dorn came up big yet again, ending with 8 points. Senior guard Lauryn Deetz notched 7, including the deciding free throws, while senior center Abigail Petranovich scored 6 in a strong effort in the paint.
