9/24/16 Football: McDonell 56, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 41

The McDonell Macks (4-2, 4-2 Cloverwood Conference) scored early and often against the Assumption Royals (3-3, 3-3) and, after a back-and-forth first half, took a one score advantage into the half in this barn-burner. The Macks forced a Royals turnover on one of the first plays from scrimmage of the second half and never looked back. Ryan Sorenson immediately scored a long rushing touchdown and the Macks were up two scores for good.
Alex Ohde, Grayson Knowlton, and Ryan Sorenson all tossed touchdown passes (Amelse, Baughman x2, Knowlton, Sorenson), and it became the Ryan Sorenson show in the second half. Not only did Sorenson throw a touchdown, he also scored three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown, intercepted a pass, and made several tackles for loss on defense.

9/23/16 Football: Chi-Hi 40, River Falls 21

On homecoming night, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (4-2, 3-1 Big Rivers Conference) got the job done against the visiting Wildcats (1-5, 0-4 BRC) and put themselves one win away from a second consecutive playoff appearance.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch: Defensively, seniors Simon Martineau and Cale Hannusch were once again impressive. Fellow senior Evan Spaeth forced a fumble and played blanket coverage.
On offense, all three running backs (juniors Codie Meinen and Matt Bruder, and sophomore Matt Pomietlo) scored, leading the way for a balanced Cardinals attack. Bruder found the end zone three times, and leads the team with 11 touchdowns.

9/16/16 Football: Superior 17, Chi-Hi 7

After averaging 46 points per game the last three weeks, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (3-2, 2-1 Big Rivers Conference) didn't look quite like themselves against a Spartans team (4-1, 2-1 BRC) looking to solidify its chances for a fifth consecutive postseason appearance.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch: Despite playing far more snaps than usual, the Chi-Hi defense only allowed one offensive touchdown. Simon Martineau continued his stellar play on the interior, as did fellow senior Cale Hannusch from his LB position. Max Gibson forced a fumble, and Jordan Steinmetz recorded his third interception of the year.
On offense, junior Matt Bruder scored his team-leading eighth touchdown.
