In their final home game of the season, this time in a Sectional Final, the Macks (16-4, 8-4 Western Cloverbelt Conference) matched the hot-shooting Lakers (16-8, 7-3 Central Lakeland Conference) shot for shot in the first half and used a late 10-0 run to pull ahead by eight at the break.

In the second McDonell withstood an early charge by Turtle Lake, got timely offensive contributions throughout their lineup, and held their opponent at arm's length to the final buzzer, earning a trip back to the WIAA Division 5 State Tournament!

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Senior guard Logan Hughes was on fire in the first half, knocking down six threes, and finished with a game-high 25 points. 2/25/21 WIAA Division 5 State Semi-Final Basketball: (3) Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 46, (2) McDonell Lady Macks 43

At the WIAA State Tournament for the first time in program history, the Lady Macks (12-4, 6-2 Western Cloverbelt Conference) had a severe height disadvantage but battled gamely against the Royals (15-8, 8-3 Marawood South Conference), who led by just three at the half.

In the second, McDonell watched Assumption gradually create separation, leading by as many as 14 before a magnificent run by the Lady Macks cut the deficit to one late in the game. The Royals held on however, bringing a historic McDonell season to a close just shy of the ultimate goal.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Junior guard Lauryn Deetz again led the way, scoring all 11 of her points in the second half, while senior Anna Geissler played hard in her last game in a McDonell uniform and finished with eight. Sophomore Marley Hughes added seven points.
