After a one day delay because of rain and lightning, the Lady Macks (14-2, 11-2 Western Cloverbelt Conference) picked up right where they left off against the Cardinals (12-6, 7-4 WCC), blowing the doors off with 12 runs in the first inning, and run-ruling their opponent after three. Senior pitcher Katie Ruf was nothing short of brilliant in the circle, as she no-hit Thorp over those three innings, allowing just one walk and striking out 9 of the 10 batters she faced.
Game 2 proved a much bigger challenge for the Lady Macks, as an early two-run advantage turned into a three-run deficit after two, when Thorp took advantage of miscues and scored five runs in the bottom of the second. Trailing 5-2, McDonell was shut out in both the third and fourth and was down to their final nine outs of the contest.
In the fifth, however, the Lady Macks bats came alive, as they stormed back to plate four runs and regain the lead. After that it was all McDonell, as their offense tallied 12 hits and scored 15 unanswered runs to sweep the doubleheader.
