12/30/21 Basketball: Durand 65, McDonell Macks 37

After jumping out on top 11-7, the Macks saw Durand go on a 9-0 run that gave them the lead for good. The Macks' Canan Huss scored 14 first half points to help his team stay within 30-22 at the half, but Gunnar Hurlburt's 11 second half points helped Durand outscore McDonell 35-15 after intermission on their way to a 65-37 win.

With the victory Durand goes to 6-2, while the loss drops McDonell to 4-5.

12/29/21 Basketball: Rice Lake 43, McDonell Lady Macks 41

After a 13-day layoff, the Division 5 Lady Macks (5-2, 3-1 Western Cloverbelt Conference) found themselves on the road against the the Division 2 Warriors (6-3, 3-2 Big Rivers Conference) and forced to play without their leading scorer and two talented frontcourt players.

Despite the considerable mismatch in size, McDonell battled fiercely on defense, coming back from an eight-point deficit in each half to eventually take the lead, before Rice Lake pulled ahead and held on for the win.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:

Sophomore guard Emily Cooper led the Lady Macks with 10 points, while senior forward Abigail Petranovich played a strong defensive game and finished with eight before fouling out.

12/21/21 Basketball: McDonell Macks 83, Osseo-Fairchild 63

After a one week layoff, the Macks (4-3, 2-1 Western Cloverbelt Conference) saw their early 12 point lead against the Thunder (0-7, 0-4 WCC), slip to just a one basket differential at the break.

In the second half, however, McDonell's defense led to offense, as they quickly jumped out to a double-digit advantage once again and cruised to a conference win.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:

Junior forward Canan Huss shot the lights out in the second half while scoring a career-high 32 points, while junior guard Eddie Mittermeyer had another stellar performance to finish with 25.

12/18/2021 Boys Basketball: Rice Lake 59-Chi Hi 53

Chippewa Falls played host to Rice Lake a day later than originally scheduled but the game was well worth the wait. Chi Hi led by just a point at the half and traded the lead back and forth in an exciting second half before Rice Lake ultimately prevailed down the stretch.

WOGO's coverage of the Cardinal boys will resume in 2022 on January 4th against new conference rival New Richmond, pregame at 6:55!
