7/30/23 CVTW: Complaint Against ECASD; "Bank Your Vote"; National Night Out

The first of our three stories this week concerns a complaint filed with an Eau Claire judge against the Eau Claire Area School District by a parent(Leah Buchman) and the conservative, Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty. The complaint says the school district refused to provide a copy of a statement of a teacher's gender transition that the district acknowledges was read aloud to students in several classrooms. Also, this week the Republican National Committee and the WI Republican Party announced their "Bank Your Vote" effort for next year's election, and we hear more on this from RNC Chair; Ronna Mc Daniel, WI GOP Chair, Brian Schimming; and Republican 3rd District Congressman, Derrick Van Orden. Finally, we reair our interview from this past week with Chippewa Falls Police officer, Stephanie Bohl. about the Aug. 1st, National Night Out, from 5-8pm, in Chippewa Falls.

First, we have highlights from both the Republican and Democratic radio addresses. State Senator, Howard Marklein(R-Spring Green), slams Gov. Evers veto of tax cuts in the budget, while Gov. Evers touts investments into K-12 education in the new budget. Also, with Fierce Freedom's "Eau Freedom: Fun Run & Fest" coming up July 19th from 5-8pm at Carson Park in Eau Claire,from our May 7th program we bring back three members of Fierce Freedom, the Chippewa Valley's anti-human trafficking organization, to update us on the organization's rebranded biggest annual fundraiser. Retired State Senator, Kathy Bernier, talks with us about her new role as Wisconsin Director of Keep Our Republic, "a non-partisan civic action organization dedicated to protecting a republic of laws and strengthening the checks and balances of our electoral system." Bernier touches on some of issues that arose out of the 2020 election and invites listeners to the free election seminar KOR is offering from 6-9pm July 31st at the Chippewa County Courthouse Large Assembly Room. Bernier says presenters will include county clerks, municipal clerks, law enforcement, WI Election Commission staff & election equipment vendors with the goal being to educate citizens about the entire electoral process from beginning to end.Those interested should email her at Kathy@keepourrepublic.com.

Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley Executive Director, Scott Wuerch, and Family Promise Board VP & Treasurer, David Norgaard, discuss the problem of homelessness in the Chippewa Valley and the great work being done by their organization to provide homeless families shelter, transitional housing, rapid rehousing and case management on their way to permanent housing as quickly as possible. They encourage as many people as possible to join them for the 20th annual, "Hike for the Homeless" fundraiser August 15th from 5-8pm at the River Prairie Center in Altoona.
