10/20/23 WIAA Division 1 Playoff Football, Level 1: #8 Chi-Hi 21, #1 Hudson 14
Facing the Big Rivers Conference champions in the first round of the WIAA D1 tournament, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (5-5, 3-4 Big Rivers Conference) garnered an early turnover against the Raiders (8-2, 7-0 BRC) and turned it into a touchdown, before forcing a three and out on the next Hudson possession and promptly marching in for a 14-0 lead.
The home team responded with a score of their own, and both teams battled through the next two quarters without adding a single point. In a thrilling finish, the Raiders turned away a potential clock-killing drive from the Cards and drove down to the Chi-Hi 4-yard line with a chance to tie the game, before a magnificent defensive effort ended the Hudson season with a stunning upset, and vaulted the Cardinals into Level 2.
Junior WR Jackson Bohland played both ways - including filling in at running back - and made plays throughout the game, including a 34-yard touchdown run on 4th and 3. Senior DB Jack Zwiefelhofer forced an early fumble and also recorded his sixth interception of the season, while senior safety Carter Bowe made plays in the return game as well as on D.
