12/7/24 Basketball: Elk Mound 60, McDonell Lady Macks 23

In a neutral site game at Colfax, the Lady Macks (2-2, 1-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) feel behind very early to the aggressive and experienced Mounders (5-0, 1-0 Dunn-St. Croix) WCC), who looked every bit a team that began last year at 27-0.

After halftime, Elk Mound continued to surge, pulling away to remain perfect on the season.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Senior forward Kendall Hepfler was a force in the paint, particularly on the offensive glass, as she paced the team with 9 points.

12/7/24 Basketball: Prescott 45, McDonell Macks 43

Back at the Northwest Tipoff Classic at UW-Stout, the Macks (2-2, 0-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) built an early double-digit lead, but watched it evaporate against the athletic Cardinals (3-1, Middle Border Conference), who rode hot shooting to tie the game at the half.

After the break, the Macks slowly pulled back out in front, but struggled to execute in the game's final minutes after Prescott made a run. Late turnovers also proved to be costly, and the Macks couldn't quite hold on.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Junior guard Cael Holm hit a trio of treys in the second half and finished with a team-high 11 points after being shut out in the first half from outside, while senior guard Jordan Sikora played his usual brand of lockdown defense and also finished with nine.

12/7/24 Basketball: Superior 46, Chi-Hi Boys 37

After four ties early the Chippewa Falls(0-3) grabbed a 13-10 lead before Superior(2-2) went on a 9-0 run to pull ahead 19-13. The Spartans then led at the half 25-19 after Grant Von Haden hit the Cards only 3-pointer of the game just before intermission.

The closest the Cards could get in the 2nd half was 25-21 before Superior went on to a 46-37 win. Unofficially CF had 18 turnovers to just 8 for Superior.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
It was a big day for the juniors as Grant Von Haden led the team with 9 points while Conrad Gebauer and Connor Kolinski each scored 8.

12/3/24 Basketball: McDonell Lady Macks 42, Eau Claire Regis 39

On the road for their conference opener, the Lady Macks (2-1, 1-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) went toe-to-toe early with the Ramblers (3-1, 0-1 WCC), but ran into foul trouble and fell behind by nine at the break.

After halftime, both teams settled in defensively, and Regis extended their lead to double digits. Slowly but surely, however, McDonell fought their way back, closing the gap, retaking the lead, and hanging on for a huge early season victory.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Sophomore guard Claire Ruf had a strong first half and paced the team with 14 points on the night, while senior forward Kendall Hepfler was indomitable in the paint and poured in 11 of her 13 after the break. Sophomore Emily Hartman hit a duo of timely threes and was the third Lady Macks player in double figures, finishing with 11.

11/26/24 Basketball: McDonell Macks 59, Colfax 47

On the road for their season opener, the Macks (1-0, 0-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) built an early double-digit lead, but watched it evaporate against the long and talented Vikings (0-1, 0-0 Dunn-St. Croix), who fought back and took a two-point advantage into halftime.

After the break, Colfax scored the first seven points, as McDonell went over 5 minutes into the second half without scoring. Patience prevailed, however, as the veteran Macks squad used hassling pressure defense and hustle plays to eliminate the deficit and eventually build a double-digit lead once again, this time carrying it through to the finish.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Junior guard Cael Holm did his damage from outside, knocking down five threes and finishing with a team high 17 points. Junior forward Karson Galvez returned from first half foul trouble to tally 10, while sophomore forward Nathan Hazel added nine in his first game in a McDonell uniform. Junior guard Eli Stepp made the most of his minutes as a starter, playing a strong all-around game and finishing with eight points.
