After three setbacks in a row, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (2-3, 1-2 Big Rivers Conference) made the short road-trip south to face the resurgent Huskies (3-2, 2-1 BRC), who were winners of three straight and in a four-way tie for first place in the Big Rivers.
Sparked by a defensive touchdown in the opening minute, Chi-Hi staked themselves a 17-0 advantage, but a resilient North team continued to battle back, coming as close as seven points down the stretch as momentum see-sawed between both squads. In the end, splash plays on special teams made the difference, as the Cards notched their first conference win of 2023.
Senior DB Jack Zwiefelhofer tallied his fourth interception of the season - and second pick-six - as he gave Chi-Hi immediate momentum to start the game. Fellow senior DB Carter Bowe stole the show, however, flipping the field multiple times as a punt returner, and, in the second half, taking not one but two kickoffs to the house.
