Back at Dorais Field for a home playoff game for the first time in 7 years, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (7-3, 5-2 Big Rivers Conference) faced off against the imposing defense of the Lightning (8-2, 5-2 Fox Valley Association).
It was a slugging match through the first 2 quarters, with the only points before the half coming on a last-second, 47-yard field goal by Appleton North.
In the third and fourth quarters, Chi-Hi found their offense continually stymied by the seemingly impenetrable defensive front of the Lightning, and, despite winning the turnover battle handily, could never quite find their rhythm as their stellar season came to a close.
The Chi-Hi defense played their hearts out, as senior LB Mason Monarski led the way with 8 tackles, senior DE Jace Zwiefelhofer was right behind with 7 stops, senior LB Thomas Clary made 5 tackles and recovered a fumble, and fellow senior Dawson Goodman added 6 tackles and an interception.
