5/30/23 WIAA Division 1 Sectional Semi-Final Softball: (2) Stevens Point-9 (3) Chippewa Falls-8

                                                                       

With two out in the top of the 2nd inning Chippewa Falls(21-6) scored five runs on seven straight singles from Lauren Shepherd, Mykle Buhrow, Olivia Sanborn, Makenna Johnston, Paige Steinmetz, Madyson Baker, and Madisyn Bauer in grabbing a 5-0 lead, but Stevens Point(18-10) answered with three runs in the bottom of the 2nd and tied up the game with two more runs in  the 3rd. 

The Cards again took the lead scoring three runs in the 5th inning knocked in on singles by Buhrow and Sanborn, but the Panthers responded in the bottom of the frame with three more runs to tie the game at 8.

In the bottom of the 7th, with the bases loaded and two outs, Point's third baseman, Riley Pechinski, hit a single over the head of Cardinals shortstop, Makenna Johnston, knocking in the winning run and giving the Panthers a 9-8 win.

5/30/23 WIAA Division 5 Softball Sectional Semi-Final: (1) McDonell Lady Macks 10, (2) Athens 0 (5 inn)

In their final home game of the season, this time in a Sectional playoff game, the Lady Macks (18-6, 11-3 Western Cloverbelt Conference) started out with a bang against the Bluejays (15-8,8-0 Marawood North Conference), as McDonell junior Katie Ruf struck out the side on just 10 pitches in the top of the first.

In the Lady Macks' half of the inning, they plated 2 runs, then really opened things up in the bottom of the second, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring 5 times, McDonell continued to ride strong performances all over the diamond, eventually ending the game in just five innings and advancing to the Sectional Final.

Sophomore leadoff hitter Kendall Hepfler was 2-3, walked once, swiped two bases, and scored three times, while senior Becca Baier went 3-4 at the plate with a walk and run scored, and junior Aubrey Dorn clobbered a pair of doubles  In the circle, junior pitcher Katie Ruf was dominant once again as she struck out eight.

5/28/23 CVTW: Farm Bill; Radio Addresses; "Y on the Fly" Program

Congressman Derrick Van Order(R-Eau Claire), a member of the House Ag committee, discusses getting input from his his Ag Advisory Board to best inform him what to push for in the Farm Bill he hopes will be written by September. In these week's radio addresses, State Sen., Eric Wimberger(R-Green Bay), touts the Joint Finance Committee's move to dedicate a $125 million PFAS fund in the state budget, while in the Democratic address Gov. Evers touts his proposal to fix WI's roads & infrastructure. Finally, the Chippewa Falls YMCA's Healthy Living Director, Carrie Mathwig, explains how the "Y on the Fly" program this summer will offer food and programming to Chippewa Falls & the surrounding area. Mathwig says the Y is teaming up with the Chippewa Falls School district and Feed My People Food Bank to make sure no child is bored or hungry this summer, and offering it all for FREE!

5/25/23 WIAA Div. 1 Softball Regional Final: (3) Chippewa Falls-8 vs. (6) New Richmond-4

                                                                             


A two-run homer from Third Baseman, Madison Bauer, in the bottom of the first inning gave the Cards (21-5) an early lead that they never relinquished. Chippewa Falls added four runs in the second upping their lead to 6-0, three of which came on a clutch hit from Paige Steinmetz. Second Baseman, Mykle Buhrow, doubled in the Cards' seventh run in the third before New Richmond(12-7) got on the scoreboard in the fourth on a Brier Blietz solo homer. 

Junior pitcher, Lakken Mc Eathron, turned in a solid performance as Chi High did what they needed to in advancing to Sectionals with an 8-4 win.
