3/3/23 WIAA Division 5 Basketball Regional Final: (1) McDonell Macks 47, (4) Owen-Withee 40

Playing on back to back nights in their quest for a regional crown, the Macks (26-1, 13-1 Western Cloverbelt Conference) fell behind early to the Blackhawks (21-6, 11-3 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference), but came back to take a slim four-point advantage into halftime.

Neither team could pull away from the other, and though Owen-Withee stayed within a possession or two throughout the second half, McDonell continued to hit timely shots and stayed just out of reach. In a low scoring, defensive battle in front of a jam-packed gym, it was the Macks who proved their mettle at crunch time, finishing the game off from the line with clutch free throws and claiming a regional championship for the eighth time in nine years.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Senior guard Eddie Mittermeyer sparked the Macks offense again and again, hitting 6 threes and ending with a game-high 24 points. Senior guard Aidan Misfeldt continued his strong play on both ends of the floor and tallied 10 on the night, while senior guard/forward Canan Huss battled foul trouble but hit clutch free throws when it mattered, scoring all 7 of his points from the foul line and in the second half.

3/4/23 WIAA Division 5 Basketball Sectional Final: (2) McDonell Lady Macks 70, (3) Siren 48

In their third consecutive Sectional Final, the second-seeded Lady Macks (24-5, 14-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) overcame a little pregame adversity with their uniforms and quickly roared ahead of the Dragons (23-6, 13-5 West Lakeland Conference), who found themselves down 19 by halftime.

After the break, the defensive intensity and physicality of the game increased, but McDonell never allowed their opponent to make a sustained run. Eight players scored as the Lady Macks cruised to a truly impressive win, advancing to state for the third straight year!

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Junior guard Emily Cooper was nearly unstoppable in the first half, nailing 6 threes and tallying all of her game-high 23 points before the break. Junior center Aubrey Dorn continued her impressive play, scoring 11 of her 14 in the second half. Senior guard/forward Marley Hughes once again played like a team captain, adding 11 points, while sophomore forward Sophie Schmidgall came off the bench and scored 10, putting her in double figures for the second consecutive game.

3/3/23 WIAA Division 1 Regional Semi-final, Superior-72 Chippewa Falls Boys-56

Superior(13-11) went on a 16-0 run to grab a 24-8 lead, but Chippewa Falls(14-11) outscored them the rest of the half, 18-8, and trailed 32-26 at the break.

In the 2nd half though the Spartans quickly built their lead back to double digits, and the Cards shots just didn't drop the way they needed them to as they saw their season come to an end losing 72-56.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch: Mason Monarski hit hit first two 3's and went on to lead the Cards with 20 points, while fellow seniors Trent Lindner and Christian Crumbaker chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively.
