Boys Basketball: Chi-Hi 64, Sun Prairie 77

In their season opener across the state, the Chi-Hi Cardinals (0-1, 0-0 Big Rivers Conference) got out of the gates a little slow, falling to an eighteen point deficit, and fell 77 to 64 against Sun Prairie (1-0, 0-0 Big 8 Conference). The Chi-Hi Cardinals had a spirited comeback attempt in the second half led by sharpshooting from behind the arc to outscore Sun Prairie 35-30 in the half, but it was not enough to overcome the home-team Cardinals and Marlon Ruffin who scored 28.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Dawson Mathwig had 21 points before fouling out to lead all Chi-Hi scorers. Emmanuel Joseph, in his first start, protected the rim defensively while adding eight points. Tyler Robarge scored seven points without missing a shot as he filled in for Joseph off of the bench.

In their first game of the 2016-17 season, the Lady Cardinals (0-1, 0-0 Big Rivers Conference) got off to a slow start against Appleton North (1-0, 0-0 Fox Valley Association) in a rematch of the Regional Final last year. Down 20-4 after ten minutes and 31-15 at the half, Chi-Hi scored only one point less than the Lady Lightning in the second half, but ended up losing 61-44 in Becca Bestul's head coaching debut.
