In the state championship game for the first time since 2018, the Macks (17-5, 8-4 Western Cloverbelt Conference) fell behind early to the incredibly tall and athletic Falcons (18-3, 5-1 Trailways - East Conference), who used their length effectively on both ends of the floor.
Though McDonell continued to battle, Hustisford lived up to their ranking as the number one team in the state with a complete performance, leaving the Macks a little shy of their ultimate goal but still able to bring back a silver ball as the State Runner-Up in Division 5.
Back at the state tournament, the Macks (17-4, 8-4 Western Cloverbelt Conference) pulled out to an early double-digit lead over the Blazers (16-11 7-8 Packerland Conference) before N.E.W. Lutheran charged back within two.
Right before the half, senior Logan Hughes beat the buzzer with a three to extend the lead to five. Then, to begin the second, senior Jake Siegenthaler sparked a 13-1 run and McDonell never looked back as they charged into the WIAA Division 5 State Title Game.
