9/30/22 Football: Chi-Hi 20, River Falls 14 (OT)

Though back at home, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (5-2, 3-2 Big Rivers Conference) faced their stiffest test of the season in the Wildcats (6-1, 4-1  BRC), who came into the game at 6-0 and frontrunners in the conference title chase. River Falls scored in just over 2 minutes to open up the contest - and also took advantage of a short field after a Chi-Hi fumble - to go into the break up 14-0.

For the second consecutive game, however the switch flipped in the second half - the Chi-Hi offense marched down the field to begin the third quarter and scored 14 unanswered points of their own before a goal-to-go stop by the River Falls defense stymied their momentum.

In OT, the Cards forced fumble on the very first play, and after failing to garner a first down themselves, attempted a 34-yard field goal - which was blocked, scooped up by River Falls, fumbled, recovered by Chi-Hi, lateraled, and subsequently returned for a game-winning, walk-off touchdown.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Senior DB Jackson Gugel picked off his 7th pass of the season, continuing his incredible play, while fellow senior, safety Dawson Goodman, played both ways for much of the game, anchoring the defense while ripping off huge chunks of yardage as a running back, and ultimately both forcing the fumble and returning the loose ball for the game-winner.

9/29/22 Football: McDonell-66 New Auburn-8

It was truly a team effort as the Macks(4-2) scored early and often in building a 40-0 lead over New Auburn(0-6) by the end of the first quarter and a 60-0 lead by halftime. First half scoring included a 14 yard TD run by Daniel Fritz; three TD passes from Grant Smiskey, including a 55 yarder to Dale Tetrault and connections of 43 and 24 yards to David Anderson; Smiskey also ran two in from 22 and 2 yards; Dawson Moulton scored on a 57 yard run; Evan Eckes found paydirt on a 28 yard run; and Eli Steppe capped off the first half explosion with another 22 yard run.

The Macks lone second half TD came on 21 yard run from Alan Meinen.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:  A number of players had impressive showings in the Macks runaway win including Grant Smiskey, Dawson Moulton, Dale Tetrault, and David Anderson.

9/23/22 Football: Chi-Hi 21, New Richmond 7

In a critical conference game on the road, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (4-2, 2-2 Big Rivers Conference) fought through a scoreless first quarter with the Tigers (4-2, 2-2  BRC), before giving up a touchdown late in the half.

In the second half, however, the switch flipped - the Chi-Hi offense absolutely controlled the line of scrimmage, racking up 201 rushing yards after the break and running off 21 unanswered points. The defense held their ground as well, forcing a critical, game-changing fumble and then sealing the game with two late interceptions.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Junior QB Mason Von Haden showed off his running ability with a number of critical carries, and senior RB Mason Howard was elusive as ever, as each ran for nearly triple digits. Senior S Dawson Goodman intercepted a pass late and also scored on a 43-yard touchdown run, while senior DB Jackson Gugel picked off his 6th pass of the season.

9/16/22 Football: Chi-Hi 42, Eau Claire North 14

Back at home and hoping to get back on track after two straight defeats, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (3-2, 1-2 Big Rivers Conference) scored early but immediately gave the ball back to the Huskies (1-4, 1-2  BRC), who quickly tied the game and looked like they were going to be in the thick of it the whole night.

The Chi-Hi offense responded, however, and in tandem with a stellar defensive effort the Cards ripped off 28 unanswered points to take total command of the game, piling up 320 rushing yards and 406 yards of total offense, eventually cruising to their first conference victory of the season.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Senior RB Mason Howard ran for 93 yards and three touchdowns on just 9 carries, while a fellow senior, FB Nathan Drivas, carried the ball for 107 yards on only 10 attempts. Senior DB Jackson Gugel picked off his fifth pass of the season, just five games in.
