Trying to get back on track after their first setback of the season, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (2-2, 0-2 Big Rivers Conference) gave some ground but then garnered a key early turnover against the Mustangs (2-2, 2-0 BRC), who made it a point to emphasize their physicality and power running game early.
After multiple penalties and then an interception stalled a promising drive in the second quarter, the Cards found themselves in a 14-0 hole at halftime. In the second half, the Mustangs continued to pound the ball but the Chi-Hi defensive front did their best to make life difficult, allowing the offense to mount a late comeback that fell just shy of a potential game-winning possession.
WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Senior DB Dawson Goodman made his mark on offense, leading the Cards in rushing and scoring a touchdown, while senior LB Thomas Clary made play after play to hold the potent Menomonie rushing attack in check.
