One night removed from a dramatic victory over their region's #1 seed, the Macks (13-14, 7-7 Western Cloverbelt Conference) once again found themselves in a defensive struggle early, this time against the Bluejays (21-6, 11-5 Marawood - North), who rarely gave McDonell a clean look at the basket.
Although they led by four at the half, the Macks slowly watched their advantage dwindle as Athens continued to clamp down defensively, ending McDonell's season on their way to a regional crown.

Junior guard Eddie Mittermeyer was shut out in the first half but poured in 17 after the break, while fellow junior, forward Canan Huss, scored 10. Senior center Joe Janus showed his strength on the boards and on defense in his final game in a McDonell uniform.
