On a chilly, wind-swept Friday night on the shores of Lake Superior, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (4-5, 3-4 Big Rivers Conference) needed a win against the upset-minded Spartans (0-9, 0-7 BRC), to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Points were at a premium the entire contest, and an early turnover, a blocked PAT, and a timely interception, coupled with defensive stands on fourth down, proved to be the difference, as Chi-Hi battled back and forth with a tough, physical Superior team playing for pride on its Senior Night.
WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Senior RB Xander Neal ran the ball hard throughout the game and led the team with 76 rushing yards, while junior LB Brett Krista made the most of his opportunity to start, flying all over the field to make plays.
