On Veterans Night and back at home at Dorais for the first time in three weeks, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (1-3, 0-2 Big Rivers Conference) struggled to match up in the trenches with the state-ranked Mustangs (4-0, 2-0 BRC), who scored on all three of their drives in the first half.
In the third quarter, however, the Cards forced two empty possessions by the Menomonie, and pulled within one score of their opponent twice in the second half. After the Cards cut the deficit to eight midway through the fourth, the Mustangs capped off a strong and balanced offensive performance with a game-ending drive that killed well over 6 minutes of clock and left Chippewa Falls winless in conference play.
Off the field, Chi-Hi's 11th Annual Veterans Night was an unquestioned success, kicking off a drive for warm winter clothing items for homeless veterans and providing over $2,500 in donations during the "Miracle Minute."
WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Junior RB Jackson LeMay accounted for 150 yards of total offense, including an electrifying 51-yard touchdown run on 4th and 2. Senior QB Mason Von Haden was efficient in the passing game and did not turn the ball over, while also rushing for a touchdown.
