Colliding with Prairie Farm at the sectional level for the third time in as many years, the second-seeded Lady Macks (23-5, 14-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) fell behind early to the senior-laden and undefeated Panthers (26-1, 16-0 East Lakeland Conference), but steadily climbed back into the contest and led by five at the break.
In a back-and-forth second half, McDonell saw their slim lead disappear and even fell behind down the stretch, but clutch play on both ends of the floor made the difference as the Lady Macks advanced to the Sectional Final for the third straight season.
WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Junior center Aubrey Dorn was dominant on both ends of the floor and finished with a game-high 20 points, while senior guard/forward Marley Hughes hit four absolutely crucial free throws in the final moments and ended with 15. Sophomore forward Sophie Schmidgall exploded off the bench to add 12 critical points, and junior guard Emily Cooper played lockdown defense and contributed 11.
