3/11/22 WIAA Division 5 Basketball State Semi-Final: (2) Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 36, (3) McDonell Lady Macks 35

In their third straight postseason rematch, this time against the defending state champs, the Lady Macks (25-4, 12-2 Western Cloverbelt Conference) faced the young but talented Royals (27-3, 14-2 Marawood - South), at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

McDonell jumped out to an early advantage, but Assumption counterpunched with a flurry of three-point shooting to take a seven-point advantage into the half.

Without their leading scorer and rebounder for almost the entire second half, McDonell fell behind by as many as 12, but battled back valiantly - taking the lead with just over a minute to play - before seeing their comeback bid fall just short at the final horn.

Junior forward Marley Hughes helped spark a second half comeback, scoring 7 of her team-high 10 points after the break. Before sitting out the majority of the second, senior guard Lauryn Deetz tallied 8 first-half points to cap her stellar career at McDonell.
