2/14/22 Basketball: McDonell Lady Macks 76, Eleva-Strum 45

On the road for the third time in as many games, the Lady Macks (19-3, 12-2 Western Cloverbelt Conference) fell behind by almost double-digits to the Lady Cardinals (9-11, 8-5 Dairyland - Large), who hit five threes in rapid succession in the first half.

Later in the first, however, McDonell's relentless defense began to take its toll. The Lady Macks roared back into the lead and never took their foot off the gas until the game was firmly out of reach.

The night at Eleva was filled with emotions that went far beyond the basketball court, as the Lady Cardinals basketball team, school, and community had organized a benefit for the Jody Gehrke family. Jody is the father of three Eleva-Strum students and was injured in a horrible accident in December. Senior guard Lauryn Deetz scored 12 points after the break to finish with 16, while sophomore guard Emily Cooper matched her tally. Fellow sophomore, forward Aubrey Dorn, was right behind with 14, while junior forward Marley Hughes rained in a trio of triples in the first half and ended with 13.
