In their first-ever state title game appearance, the Macks (27-2, 13-1 Western Cloverbelt) looked every bit the champions, trading early blows with the Hilltoppers (19-10, 10-6 Metro Classic) before garnering a double-digit lead at the break and pulling away in the second half.
Fifteen McDonell players saw the floor at the Kohl Center. Senior Ben Retzlaff led all scorers with 20 points, set a state tournament game record for steals, and nailed his 100th three of the season.
Junior Alex Ohde added 15 points and 8 rebounds, and fellow junior Grayson Knowlton tallied 10 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore Hayden Baughman led the team with 6 assists. Junior Nathan Hoglund contributed 4 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
