In their playoff opener, the Lady Macks (16-8, 10-2 Western Cloverbelt Conference) jumped out to an early double-digit lead before the Hornets (5-18, 1-13 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference), made a push and pulled within a possession.
McDonell responded with a run of their own, taking a 19-point advantage into the half and stifling the comeback bid. Every player on the Lady Macks roster saw action in the second half as they cruised to a victory and earned a spot in the Regional Final.
Playing on their home floor in the annual Cloverbelt Crossover game, the Macks (15-9, 6-6 Western Cloverbelt Conference) went back and forth for much of the first half with the young and talented Rockets (14-10, 7-7 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference), and led by just a single possession at the half.
In the second, McDonell came out of the gate with some momentum, stretching the lead to multiple possessions, but never pulling away. Foul trouble plagued the Macks in the second half, but clutch defensive plays and free throws made the difference as the clock waned, giving McDonell the win and some momentum on the doorstep of the playoffs.
