Chippewa Valley This Week
In a non-conference battle of two state-ranked teams - and also a rematch of last year's Level 2 playoff thriller - the McDonell Macks (1-0, 0-0 North Central Conference - East) looked strong on both sides of the ball early against the Bears (0-1, 0-0 North Central Conference - West), jumping out to a two-score lead.
In the second half, however, Clayton began to win the battle at the line of scrimmage, slowly closing the gap. The game would come down to a few crucial plays in the final minute, as the Macks held off a final charge and headed home with a victory to start their 2024 campaign.
WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
On the road for the first time in 2024, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (2-0, 0-0 Big Rivers Conference - East) took advantage of prime starting field position after a 7-yard first possession punt from the Old Abes (0-2, 0-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference), scored shortly thereafter, and never looked back.
In a game that featured a running clock to start the second half, the Cards poured it on at Carson Park, scoring the game's first 59 points and rolling up well over 400 yards on the ground, while also limiting Memorial's up-tempo attack and shutting out their first team offense.
