8/31/24 Football: McDonell 27, Clayton 26

In a non-conference battle of two state-ranked teams - and also a rematch of last year's Level 2 playoff thriller - the McDonell Macks (1-0, 0-0 North Central Conference - East) looked strong on both sides of the ball early against the Bears (0-1, 0-0 North Central Conference - West), jumping out to a two-score lead.

In the second half, however, Clayton began to win the battle at the line of scrimmage, slowly closing the gap. The game would come down to a few crucial plays in the final minute, as the Macks held off a final charge and headed home with a victory to start their 2024 campaign.

                                                                                        WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:

QB Grant Smiskey tossed four touchdown passes in his senior season debut, while fellow senior, WR David Anderson, had three TD receptions and two absolutely critical tackles
on defense. Junior DL Mason Busse and Caleb Leet were warriors on the interior.

8/30/24 Football: Chi-Hi 66, Eau Claire Memorial 7

On the road for the first time in 2024, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (2-0, 0-0 Big Rivers Conference - East) took advantage of prime starting field position after a 7-yard first possession punt from the Old Abes (0-2, 0-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference), scored shortly thereafter, and never looked back.

In a game that featured a running clock to start the second half, the Cards poured it on at Carson Park, scoring the game's first 59 points and rolling up well over 400 yards on the ground, while also limiting Memorial's up-tempo attack and shutting out their first team offense.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
For the second time in as many games, senior RB Jackson Bohland tallied a hat trick of touchdowns, easily surpassing 100 yards on the ground. Fellow senior RB Jackson LeMay also found paydirt and went over the century mark rushing, while senior defensive lineman Brayden Hagmann was a disruptive force all night long.

Secondly, with International Overdose Awareness Day being observed globally on Aug. 31st, the Eau Claire City-County Health Dept.'s(click on News to register by 8/27) Public Health Specialist, Sarah Dillivan-Pospisil says with over 100 overdose deaths having taken place in Eau Claire county since 2018 residents are invited to a free Narcan training and opioid workshop Aug.28th from 5:30-7pm at the Community Table.  Finally, Rita Demerit of NEWaukee tells us what they're hearing and hoping to learn at the six "Avenue of Possibilities" forums they're holding around the state.

8/22/24 Football: Chi-Hi 36, Stevens Point 21

Home at Dorais Field to begin their 2024 campaign, the Chippewa Falls Cardinals (1-0, 0-0 Big Rivers Conference - East) fumbled twice in the first quarter, and the Panthers (0-1, 0-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference) took full advantage, staking themselves to a 14-0 lead.

A late second quarter score by the Cards, however, started to swing the momentum, and in the second half it was almost all Chi-Hi, as they ripped off a total of 36 unanswered points before a late SPASH touchdown made the final a two-score game.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Senior RB Jackson Bohland shook off an early miscue - and an injury that saw him helped off the field - to score a hat trick of touchdowns on the night, while fellow senior RB Jackson LeMay found the end zone three times as well; twice for touchdowns and once on a two-point conversion. Senior S Simon Fish led a stellar effort by the Cardinals defense, forcing a key fumble and making impact plays all over the field.
