3/31/26 Softball: Somerset 12, McDonell Lady Macks 10

Once again playing indoors, this time for a split doubleheader inside the Sonnentag Fieldhouse in Eau Claire, the Lady Macks (1-1, 0-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) battled the perpetually strong Spartans (2-2, 0-0 Middle Border Conference), a program looking to repeat as a conference champ.

After Somerset jumped out to three early runs, the Lady Macks battled back to a tie at the end of four. both teams equaled one another in the 5th and 6th, plating two and then three runs, but in the seventh the Spartans put three across and stifled McDonell's final charge.

Junior center fielder Rylie Christianson crushed the Lady Macks' first homer of the season and accounted for three of the team's 14 hits, sophomore shortstop Claire Ruf collected four hits of her own, freshman right fielder Taylan Hanson added three hits, junior catcher Lizzy Leibrandt drove in three runs, and junior pitcher Kelsey Bremness struck out a half dozen Spartans batters while also going 3-for-4 at the plate.

3/26/26 Softball: McDonell Lady Macks 13, Altoona 10

Inside the beautiful Sonnentag Fieldhouse in Eau Claire, the Lady Macks (1-0, 0-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) got their season started in a non-conference battle with the Railroaders (0-1, 0-0 Middle Border Conference), a team that took them to extra innings the previous year.

McDonell roared out of the gate offensively, plating 7 runs in the bottom of the first. Altoona had a ready answer, responding with 7 runs of their own in the top of the second.

As the pitchers settled in, the game outcome remained in the balance, but the Lady Macks made enough plays on both offense and defense to create some separation down the stretch.

Junior second baseman Aleah Bowe accounted for 3 RBIs, while freshman Ella Amodt and junior Miranda Johnson drove in two apiece. Juniors Claire Ruf, Kelsey Bremness, and Lizzy Leibrandt each collected a pair of hits.

Junior pitcher Kelsey Bremness struck out four batters, while fellow junior Rylie Christianson played strong defense in center field before taking the circle in the 4th, fanning two in a crucial 5th inning.

3/12/26 Basketball: WIAA Division 4 Sectional Semi-Final: #2 Clear Lake 78, #4 McDonell Macks 62

On the road at Amery for a neutral site Sectional matchup, the Macks (14-14, 5-9 Western Cloverbelt Conference) didn't get the fast start they were looking for, as the Warriors (20-7, 11-5 Dunn-St. Croix Conference), quickly scored the first five points of the contest.

McDonell responded and even took a two-possession lead of their own for a brief while, but Clear Lake regained a 4-point lead right before the half and never trailed again, as they steadily pulled away down the stretch.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
In his final game in a McDonell uniform, Karson Galvez led the way for the Macks with 16 points, including 12 in the second half. Junior Nathan Hazel added 13 on the night, while senior Eli Stepp played another strong all-around game and finished with 12, and junior Brennan Loiselle-Christianson was the fourth McDonell player in double-digits, ending with 10 points.

3/7/26 Basketball: WIAA Division 4 Regional Final: #4 McDonell Macks 59, #9 Prairie Farm/Clayton 37

Hosting a Regional Final for the first time since their run to the state championship game in 2023, the Macks (14-13, 5-9 Western Cloverbelt Conference) again got out to a fast start, quickly putting the Bearcats (12-14, 8-5 Lakeland - West Conference), behind by double digits and leading by 14 at the half.

Though PFC made a push momentarily in the second half, McDonell always had a response, and eventually cruised to a regional championship, cutting down the nets on their home floor.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
In his finale at Steve and Deb Roesler Gymnasium, senior Karson Galvez led the way for the Macks with a game-high 15 points, with fellow seniors Eli Stepp and Desian Matthews adding 11 and 10, respectively.
