4/24/26 Softball: Grantsburg 3, McDonell Lady Macks 2

As the sun shone over Casper Park, the Lady Macks (8-4, 7-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) went toe-to-toe with one of the state's best in the Pirates (7-0, 1-0 Lakeland - West Conference), who came into the contest looking to remain unbeaten.

Grantsburg struck first, tallying two runs in the top of the 1st, but didn't score again for four innings. Meanwhile, McDonell started out slowly offensively, but plated a critical run in both the 4th and 5th to tie the game.

In the 6th, Pirates star and University of Wisconsin commit Piper Olson hit a solo homer to center to break the deadlock, which proved to be the deciding run. The Lady Macks got the tying run to third in the bottom of the 7th, but their comeback bid came up just short.

Rylie Christianson went the distance in the circle for the Lady Macks, putting up zeros in five out of seven innings. Juniors Kelsey Bremness and Claire Ruf each crushed a triple, while freshman Ella Amodt notched her 16th RBI of the season.

4/16/26 Softball Doubleheader: McDonell Lady Macks 10, Cadott 0 (5 innings); McDonell 18, Cadott 0 (4 innings)

On a gorgeous afternoon at Casper Park, the Lady Macks (3-3, 2-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) powered their way by the Hornets (3-3, 2-3 WCC), sweeping the season series with a pair of shutouts in the doubleheader.

McDonell rode red-hot hitting and a lights-out performance in the circle: junior Kelsey Bremness struck out eight through five innings in a Game 1 shutout, then threw three no-hit innings in Game 2, facing only nine hitters and striking out five.

At the plate, it was pick your poison, as hitter after hitter in the Lady Macks' lineup made contact. In Game 1, junior Claire Ruf and freshman Taylan Hanson each picked up three hits, while juniors Lizzy Leibrandt and Kelsey Bremness went back-to-back on homers.

In Game 2, Leibrandt was 4-for-4 and went yard again, this time with a three-run bomb, while freshman Taylan Hanson collected an inside-the-park homer of her own. Leibrandt and freshman Ella Amodt each drove in four as the Lady Macks ended the game early once again.

4/11/26 Baseball Doubleheader: Holmen 6, 3 Chippewa Falls 3, 16

In game one Chippewa Falls(2-1, 0-0) got out to a 3-1 lead after the 1st inning, but a bases loaded double from Holmen's(3-1, 2-0) 3B Jason Bramwell gave the Vikings a 4-3 lead for good as they went on to a 6-3 win. The Vikings were bolstered by solid pitching from Johnny Sheetz and Wyatt Aponte, and error-free defense behind them.

After falling behind 2-0 in game two the Cards sent 10 batters to the plate in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings scoring six, five, and five runs respectively, on their way to a 16-3, five inning victory. Sophomore CF Mason Chittendon's 2-run HR was his first on varsity. Collin Balsiger went the distance for the win, striking out five, with the Cards playing error-free D behind him.

4/10/26 Softball: Baldwin-Woodville 7, McDonell Lady Macks 0

Playing at home for the second consecutive night, the Lady Macks (3-3, 2-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) gave up three early runs to the Blackhawks (4-0, 2-0 Middle Border Conference), who showcased their hitting prowess throughout the order.

After the visitors took a 6-0 lead through three, McDonell settled in defensively, allowing just one run for the remainder of the game. Baldwin-Woodville proved a little too strong in the circle and in the field, however, putting down every Lady Macks threat and going home with an unblemished record and another shutout.

Sophomore left fielder Brynn Wedemeyer made a sparkling play to save a run, laying out to make a catch, and also led the team with a 2-for-3 night at the plate.

4/9/26 Softball: McDonell Lady Macks 3, Fall Creek 2 (9 innings)

In their home opener, matched up against the defending conference champs and a team that had beaten them nine consecutive times, the Lady Macks (3-2, 2-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) were locked in a pitchers' duel with the Crickets (1-5, 1-1 WCC), as both teams backed up their starter with solid defense.

Tied at one after the seventh, the game headed to extras. Fall Creek added a run in their half of the eighth, but McDonell answered in the bottom of the frame before blanking the Crickets and walking it off in the bottom of the 9th, their first win against Fall Creek since 2021.

Freshman right fielder Taylan Hanson delivered the final blow with a walk-off single, one of her two hits on the night. Junior catcher Lizzy Leibrandt crushed a solo shot to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth, and junior pitcher Kelsey Bremness ripped two doubles while striking out 7 and going the distance.

4/6/26 Baseball: Chippewa Falls 11, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 3

On a chilly Monday in Chippewa Falls, the Cardinals (1-0, 0-0 Big Rivers Conference) started off their 2026 campaign with a home opener against the Red Raiders (1-1, 0-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Despite allowing multiple baserunners, the Cardinals defense held Rapids to a single tally in the first frame, and then the offense came through in the bottom of the inning, giving Chi-Hi their first lead.

Though the visitors briefly regained the advantage in the fourth, the Cards scored nine straight to end the contest, collecting 11 runs on just six hits, and only committing one error.

On the hill, seniors Brady Smith and Evan Weiler struck out four apiece, with only one combined walk. Seniors Connor Kolinski and Gavin Thompson each tallied 2 RBIs on the day, with Thompson, Kolinski, and sophomore Mason Chittendon each scoring twice.
