5/16/24 Baseball: McDonell Macks 14, Cadott 7

On the road for Cadott's Senior Night at Casper Park, the Macks (5-11, 3-9 Western Cloverbelt Conference) looked to play spoiler against the Hornets (5-11, 3-8 WCC), scoring the first three runs of the game and leading 6-1 going into the bottom of the third.

Cadott made a comeback bid with a big bottom of the third frame that included a pair of towering two-run homers, but McDonell answered back, plating three runs their next time up and continuing to keep the Hornets at arm's length down the stretch.

The Macks got strong pitching performances from sophomore Cael Holm and junior Cooper Mittermeyer, and the bottom of the batting order came through big, with the six through nine hitters scoring 10 of the team's 14 runs and accounting for six RBIs as well.

5/14/24 Baseball: McDonell Macks 8, Cadott 3

On Senior Night at Casper Park, the Macks (4-11, 2-9 Western Cloverbelt Conference) fell behind early to the Hornets (5-10, 3-7 WCC), who led 3-0 going into the bottom of the second.

McDonell battled gamely against Cadott's ace, junior Warren Bowe, and slowly but surely climbed back into the contest, taking the lead back in the fourth inning and eventually scoring eight unanswered runs.

Sophomore pitcher Eli Stepp came on in relief early in the game and struck out five in an excellent performance, while senior infielder/outfielder Joe Leibrandt made sure everyone would remember his Senior Night, as he went 2-3 and drove in three runs, including the go-ahead 2 RBI single in the fourth.

New Richmond(14-3, 10-2) swept the Cardinals(17-4, 9-3) 5-2(8) and 8-4 to grab sole possession of first place in the BRC and improve their position for next week's Division One Seeding Meeting.

In game one the Cards came back from a 1-0 deficit to lead 2-1 thanks to hits by Lauren Shepherd, Mykle  Buhrow, and Makenna Bauer, but NR came back to tie it at 2 in the top of the 7th and win it with three runs in the top of the 8th. In game two the Tigers built up a 6-0 lead before Paige Steinmetz hit her fourth homer of the year in the 6th. While the Cards scored three in the 7th it was too little as they fell by four.

5/8/24 Softball Doubleheader: (Game 1) McDonell Lady Macks 15, Thorp 0 (3 innings). (Game 2) McDonell 17, Thorp 5.

After a one day delay because of rain and lightning, the Lady Macks (14-2, 11-2 Western Cloverbelt Conference) picked up right where they left off against the Cardinals (12-6, 7-4 WCC), blowing the doors off with 12 runs in the first inning, and run-ruling their opponent after three. Senior pitcher Katie Ruf was nothing short of brilliant in the circle, as she no-hit Thorp over those three innings, allowing just one walk and striking out 9 of the 10 batters she faced.

Game 2 proved a much bigger challenge for the Lady Macks, as an early two-run advantage turned into a three-run deficit after two, when Thorp took advantage of miscues and scored five runs in the bottom of the second. Trailing 5-2, McDonell was shut out in both the third and fourth and was down to their final nine outs of the contest.

In the fifth, however, the Lady Macks bats came alive, as they stormed back to plate four runs and regain the lead. After that it was all McDonell, as their offense tallied 12 hits and scored 15 unanswered runs to sweep the doubleheader.

5/4/24 Baseball: Chippewa Falls-6 Marshfield-1

The Cardinals(8-7, 5-4) won this rain-shortened game 6-1 over Marshfield(3-9, 3-2) in four-plus innings in Marshfield. CF junior pitcher, Brayden Hagmann, held the Tigers to one run until the game, and the doubleheader, were called due to rain.

Offensively, sophomore 2B, Brady Smith had the game-winning single in the second knocking in two runs. In the 3rd junior SS, Cole Perlberg, scored from 2B on a sacrifice from DH, Gavin Thompson. Two of the three runs CF scored in the 5th were from walks by Marshfield freshman pitcher, Tyler Kremer, and sophomore 1B, Carter Berg, also knocked in a run with a single.

5/3/24 Softball: McDonell Lady Macks 10, Stanley-Boyd 0 (5 innings)

Back at Casper Park, the Lady Macks (12-2, 9-2 Western Cloverbelt Conference) came out of the gate strong against the Orioles (7-8, 3-6 WCC), tallying three runs in the bottom of the first and forcing a pitching change by the second inning.

McDonell's hot bats and aggressiveness on the bases continued to pay dividends, as they held the visitors at arm's length throughout the contest, while senior pitcher Katie Ruf and freshman shortstop/pitcher Kelsey Bremness combined for a shutout, with Ruf allowing just one hit while striking out a half dozen Stanley-Boyd batters.

Senior first baseman Aubrey Dorn was 3-4 on the night with 3 RBIs, and finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, while junior left fielder Kendall Hepfler also tallied three hits and scored four runs.

5/1/24 Baseball: Osseo-Fairchild 15, McDonell Macks 12

On a rare Wednesday game at Casper Park, the Macks (3-8, 1-8 Western Cloverbelt Conference) gave up four early runs to the Thunder (4-9, 4-2 WCC), but fought their way back to a tie after two.

After giving up four more runs in the top of the third, the Macks roared back for five in the bottom of the inning, taking their first lead of the game at 9-8.

Both teams were shut out in the 4th and 5th, but the Thunder broke through in the 6th inning with 5 runs, and added two more for insurance in the top of the 7th to pull away.

A number of McDonell batters got in on the high-scoring affair, including sophomore DH Mason Busse, who went 3-3 on the night, with a walk, a double, one RBI, and two runs scored.
