11/26/24 Basketball: McDonell Macks 59, Colfax 47

On the road for their season opener, the Macks (1-0, 0-0 Western Cloverbelt Conference) built an early double-digit lead, but watched it evaporate against the long and talented Vikings (0-1, 0-0 Dunn-St. Croix), who fought back and took a two-point advantage into halftime.

After the break, Colfax scored the first seven points, as McDonell went over 5 minutes into the second half without scoring. Patience prevailed, however, as the veteran Macks squad used hassling pressure defense and hustle plays to eliminate the deficit and eventually build a double-digit lead once again, this time carrying it through to the finish.

WOGO "RadioActive" Award Watch:
Junior guard Cael Holm did his damage from outside, knocking down five threes and finishing with a team high 17 points. Junior forward Karson Galvez returned from first half foul trouble to tally 10, while sophomore forward Nathan Hazel added nine in his first game in a McDonell uniform. Junior guard Eli Stepp made the most of his minutes as a starter, playing a strong all-around game and finishing with eight points.
