On the road for Cadott's Senior Night at Casper Park, the Macks (5-11, 3-9 Western Cloverbelt Conference) looked to play spoiler against the Hornets (5-11, 3-8 WCC), scoring the first three runs of the game and leading 6-1 going into the bottom of the third.
Cadott made a comeback bid with a big bottom of the third frame that included a pair of towering two-run homers, but McDonell answered back, plating three runs their next time up and continuing to keep the Hornets at arm's length down the stretch.
The Macks got strong pitching performances from sophomore Cael Holm and junior Cooper Mittermeyer, and the bottom of the batting order came through big, with the six through nine hitters scoring 10 of the team's 14 runs and accounting for six RBIs as well.
On Senior Night at Casper Park, the Macks (4-11, 2-9 Western Cloverbelt Conference) fell behind early to the Hornets (5-10, 3-7 WCC), who led 3-0 going into the bottom of the second.
McDonell battled gamely against Cadott's ace, junior Warren Bowe, and slowly but surely climbed back into the contest, taking the lead back in the fourth inning and eventually scoring eight unanswered runs.
Sophomore pitcher Eli Stepp came on in relief early in the game and struck out five in an excellent performance, while senior infielder/outfielder Joe Leibrandt made sure everyone would remember his Senior Night, as he went 2-3 and drove in three runs, including the go-ahead 2 RBI single in the fourth.
